چکیده

This note develops two-moment approximations for blocking probabilities in overflow systems with repacking. The approximations are based on fixed point schemes, iteratively relating the arrival rate at the primary channels to the mean number of calls at the overflow channels. The analysis focuses on layered cellular mobile communications networks, but can also be applied to multiple retrial queues sharing a common (finite) orbit. Numerical results show that our approximation is fairly accurate for systems in which the mean repacking rate does not exceed the call arrival rate. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification: 60K25, 90B22.

On Large Deviations in Load Sharing Networks

Three policies, namely optimal repacking, least load routing, and Bernoulli splitting, are considered for dynamic resource allocation in load sharing networks with standard Erlang type statistics. Large deviations principles are established for the three policies in a simple network of three consumer types and two resource locations and are used to identify the network overflow exponents. The o...

An Equivalent Random Method with hyper-exponential service

The Equivalent Random Method (ERM) has been widely used to predict blocking probabilities at overflow service stations. The method assumes that service times follow an exponential distribution. While this may be a reasonable assumption for voice traffic, it is not a good assumption for dial-up Internet traffic, where service times typically have a coefficient of variation (standard deviation/me...

Approximating multi-skill blocking systems by HyperExponential Decomposition

We consider multi-class blocking systems in which jobs require a single processing step. There are groups of servers that can each serve a different subset of all job classes. The assignment of jobs occurs according to some fixed overflow policy. We are interested in the blocking probabilities of each class. This model can be used for call centers, tele-communication and computer networks. An a...

Studies on Some Inventory Model for Deteriorating Items with Weibull Replinishment and Generalised Pareto Decay Having Demands as Function of on Hand Inventory

Inventory models play an important role in determining the optimal ordering and pricing policies. Much work has been reported in literature regarding inventory models with finite or infinite replenishment. But in many practical situations the replenishment is governed by random factors like procurement, transportation, environmental condition, availability of raw material etc., Hence, it is nee...

Overflow Detection in Residue Number System, Moduli Set {2n-1,2n,2n+1}

Residue Number System (RNS) is a non-weighted number system for integer number arithmetic, which is based on the residues of a number to a certain set of numbers called module set. The main characteristics and advantage of residue number system is reducing carry propagation in calculations. The elimination of carry propagation leads to the possibility of maximizing parallel processing and reduc...
